Combine "always show all" and ability to add own option

Feature Request

I expected select fields with a fallback for the user to add their own option to be able to function like Google Forms:

This basically combines two options present in OpnForms now, but that cannot be activated at the same time: “Allow respondent to create new options” + “

Always show all select options”. I think this is more intuitive than a drop-down or a separate field visible when “other” is selected.

    I was expecting this feature of a single-select list (no drop down) like in Google Form as a standard feature. Without this feature, I cannot use OpnForm :( I need a list of visible options (no drop down) as single-select for my sales processes

    Right now, the best way to emulate this behavior is:

    • Select / Multi-Select field with preset values, including “Other”

      • Set to “Always show all select options”

    • Text field below for free-form input

      • Hidden by default

      • With logic rule to show+require if “Other” is selected in the main input

    This is more tedious to set up, and the data won’t show in one field but would require merging from two fields in further processing, but it works as a workaround.

    Thanks for the thoughtful feedback!

    That’s a great point—being able to combine “Allow respondent to create new options” with “Always show all select options” would make the select field behave more intuitively, similar to how Google Forms handles it. We can definitely see how this would improve the experience for both form creators and respondents.
